Questions
Asked and answered
The things people ring the desk about. Where the answer is no, it says no.
-
What time can I check in?
From 3:00 PM. Check-out is by 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out are both subject to availability, cannot be guaranteed, and may carry a fee — ring the desk on the day and ask.
-
Is there parking?
No. There is no car park at the hotel and no valet. The Union Square Garage and the Ellis‑O’Farrell Garage are both a short walk. Most guests here do without a car entirely: BART, Muni and both cable car lines are within a block.
-
Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not permitted. Service animals are welcome in accordance with applicable law — please tell us in advance so we can help.
-
Is there a restaurant?
Not in the hotel. Coffee and tea are in the lobby. Powell Street, Union Square and Chinatown put several hundred places to eat within a ten-minute walk, and the desk will happily point you at the good ones.
-
Is there a gym?
No. There are several within a few blocks — ask at the desk.
-
How old do I need to be to check in?
The registered guest must be at least 18 and must present government-issued photo identification and a valid credit card at check-in.
-
Can I smoke?
No. Every one of the 131 rooms and all public areas are non-smoking, and that includes vaping. Cleaning charges apply.
-
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel by 3:00 PM local time three days before arrival, or one night is charged. Non-refundable rates cannot be cancelled or changed. The terms attached to your particular rate always take precedence, so check them at the time of booking.
-
Is there Wi-Fi, and does it cost anything?
There is, throughout the building, and it is included. No charge and no daily code.
-
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
Yes, and you control the heating and cooling in your own room rather than the building deciding for you.
-
Can you hold my bags before check-in or after check-out?
Yes, at no charge, on the day of arrival or departure. The desk is staffed 24 hours.
-
Is the hotel accessible?
Please read the accessibility page before booking. It sets out honestly what a 1913 building with one lift can and cannot offer, including the fact that the hotel has no rooms designated as accessible.
-
What taxes will be added?
Rates are quoted before tax. San Francisco occupancy tax of 17.7% is added, along with any other applicable local assessments.
