From the airport

SFO is 14 miles south — 25 to 35 minutes by car depending on the traffic, and rather more predictable by train.

BART is the direct route. Board at SFO's International Terminal, take a San Francisco–bound train, and get off at Powell Street. It is the fourth stop in the city and roughly thirty minutes. The station exit puts you on the same block as the hotel.

Taxis and ride-hailing pick up from the SFO garages. Ask for Powell and Ellis rather than the hotel name: Powell Street is often closed to through traffic at the Market end for the cable cars.

Arriving by car

We have no car park. The Union Square Garage and the Ellis‑O'Farrell Garage are both within a few minutes' walk and take overnight cars. Most guests here find a car is a cost rather than a convenience — almost everything on the explore page is walkable, and the rest is one train.

• From the northUS‑101 south over the Golden Gate Bridge, then Lombard Street and the signs for downtown and Union Square. Come down to Powell Street.
• From the southUS‑101 north, then follow signs for I‑80 and the Bay Bridge and take the downtown exit. Head for Union Square and Powell Street.
• From the eastI‑80 west over the Bay Bridge, take the downtown San Francisco exit, then toward Union Square and Powell Street.
• From the westGeary Boulevard east toward downtown, then local streets to Powell Street.

Powell Street has cable car tracks, frequent closures and one-way restrictions that change. Follow live navigation for the last few blocks rather than these directions.
